The most frequent service calls CANRO receives for Valor units involve a fireplace that ignites briefly then shuts off, or one that will not light at all. In the majority of cases the root cause is a weakened thermopile — the small generator that must produce enough millivolt output to hold the gas valve open. Valor radiant fireplaces rely on this millivolt circuit rather than household current, so a thermopile that reads below roughly 300 mV under load will cause intermittent shutoffs that worsen as the unit ages. Testing and replacing the thermopile and thermocouple as a matched set is usually the correct repair, not simply cleaning the pilot.
