Weil-McLain in Metro Vancouver — full lineup, install, service & repair

American boiler heritage since 1881 — cast-iron tradition meets modern condensing efficiency

American (Michigan City, Indiana — founded 1881; one of North America's oldest boiler manufacturers)

Why Weil-McLain works well in Metro Vancouver

Weil-McLain has two distinct product lines for Metro Vancouver homeowners: heritage cast-iron boilers (still found in many older Vancouver homes built between 1950-1990) and modern condensing units like the Evergreen and Ultra series. The cast-iron heritage units (CG/EG/WGO/PEG) are legendary for 30-50 year service life when properly maintained; the modern condensing line delivers 95% AFUE in a contemporary wall-hung or floor-standing format.

CANRO's Weil-McLain experience

CANRO has serviced Weil-McLain boilers across Metro Vancouver since the late 1990s. We have particular expertise on the cast-iron heritage units — many of our service calls are on 30-40 year old WGO oil and CG/EG gas boilers that other companies have given up on. Parts for the heritage units are still readily available and our techs know the failure modes intimately.

Weil-McLain FAQs from Metro Vancouver homeowners

My Weil-McLain cast-iron boiler is 30 years old — can it be repaired?+
Almost always yes. Cast-iron Weil-McLains (CG, EG, PEG, WGO) are designed for 30-50 year service life and parts are still widely available even for units from the 1980s. CANRO specializes in keeping these heritage units running. The question becomes whether the operating-cost gap vs a modern 95% AFUE unit justifies replacement (typically 5-8 year payback on energy savings).
Should I keep my old Weil-McLain or replace it?+
A useful rule: if the unit is more than 25 years old AND your annual gas bill is high AND the repair cost is more than $1,500, replacement usually wins on a 10-year cost basis. CANRO will provide both a repair quote and a replacement quote and let you decide.
What's the difference between Evergreen and Ultra series?+
Evergreen is the newer wall-hung modulating combi line; Ultra is the heating-only condensing line, also wall-hung. Both are 95% AFUE. Choose Evergreen for combi installs (replacing both boiler + hot-water tank with one unit); choose Ultra for hydronic systems where you have or want a separate indirect tank.
Does Weil-McLain qualify for FortisBC rebates?+
Yes for condensing models (Evergreen, Ultra, GV90+). Heritage cast-iron units (CG/EG/PEG) are not condensing and do not qualify for current rebate programs.
Are heritage Weil-McLain parts still available in Vancouver?+
Yes. Weil-McLain has maintained excellent parts availability for heritage units — most replacement components (thermocouples, gas valves, controls, draft hoods, even cast-iron sections) are still in stock at Lower Mainland wholesalers. CANRO knows where to source the harder-to-find items.
Can CANRO convert my Weil-McLain oil boiler to gas?+
Yes. We perform Weil-McLain oil-to-gas conversions across Metro Vancouver. The typical project replaces the oil boiler with a high-efficiency gas condensing unit, removes the oil tank, and connects to the existing gas service (if available). Typical project: $9,500-$15,500 installed, with FortisBC rebates often available.
