No single "best" boiler — the right choice depends on your home, budget, and priorities. Here are the top brands CANRO installs across Metro Vancouver, with the situations each one wins in.

Premium tier (build quality + longevity priority)

1. Viessmann (Germany)

Industry-leading engineering. Inox-Radial stainless heat exchanger, Lambda Pro auto-combustion (200-W series), 20:1 turndown. Expected lifespan 18-22+ years. Best for: homes planning to stay 15+ years, premium installs, retrofit of high-end mechanical rooms.

2. Triangle Tube (USA)

316L stainless throughout, made in New Jersey. Prestige Solo and Excellence series have 25+ year lifespan potential. Excellent build quality at a price slightly below Viessmann. Best for: long-term ownership, premium installs.

3. Laars (USA)

Firetube heat exchanger design (vs water-tube in most competitors). Better resistance to scaling and water-quality variation. Best for: harder water areas, longer-lifespan priority, commercial-grade build feel in residential.

Mid-premium tier (best price-to-performance)

4. Navien (Korea)

Best-selling condensing combi brand in North America. Modern controls (NaviLink WiFi), 10:1 modulation, excellent BC parts availability. NCB-E series is the value benchmark. Best for: most 1-3 bath Vancouver homes, budget-conscious premium installs.

5. IBC (Canada — Burnaby BC)

Locally engineered and supported. SL Series (heating-only) and VFC (combi). Strong technical support and local parts. Best for: homes wanting Canadian-made support, strata installs, niche performance requirements.

6. Lochinvar (USA)

Commercial-grade engineering applied to residential. Knight Combi series has 10:1 modulation, SMART System controls, very high build quality. Best for: larger homes, commercial-style residential, strata buildings.

Tankless + Combi specialists

7. Rinnai (Japan)

Tankless market leader globally; also strong combi (i-Series). Excellent DHW performance, robust components. Best for: tankless-priority installs, smaller homes with high DHW demand.

8. Bosch (Germany)

Greentherm tankless + Greenstar boilers. Solid mid-tier German engineering with broad NA distribution. Best for: tankless conversions, integrated Bosch ecosystem installs.

Specialty / commercial

9. Raypak (USA)

Commercial copper-fin and pool heater specialist. Common in BC strata buildings and pool installs.

10. Lochinvar Crest / Viessmann Vitocrossal

Large commercial condensing — 500K to 6M BTU. Strata buildings and commercial.

Frequently asked questions

Which brand has the best parts availability in BC?
Navien (best — stocked at every wholesaler), Viessmann (good), IBC (good — local support), Rinnai (good). Bosch and Triangle Tube parts ship 3-5 days from Eastern Canada distribution.
Which brand lasts the longest?
Viessmann and Triangle Tube top the longevity charts in real-world Vancouver service — frequently 20+ years. Build quality and material thickness make the difference.
Which brand has the worst reputation?
No major brand has a "bad" reputation in BC — they’re all functional. Lower-tier value brands like Westinghouse/Eco King have shorter service life and weaker parts availability but still install fine.
Should I avoid any brand specifically?
Avoid no-name or grey-market imports. Stick to established brands with formal Canadian distribution. CANRO will tell you immediately if a brand we don’t recommend is what someone else quoted you.
Do I save money buying my own boiler online?
No — manufacturer warranties only apply when installed by an authorised dealer. Buying online voids the warranty and your installer can’t do the proper commissioning needed for full performance.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a boiler be serviced?
Annual servicing is recommended for all residential boilers. CANRO's annual service includes combustion analysis, heat exchanger inspection, expansion tank pressure check, condensate trap cleaning, and a full safety check. Annual maintenance is also required to keep most manufacturer warranties valid.
How much does a new boiler cost in Vancouver?
A typical residential high-efficiency gas boiler in Metro Vancouver costs $7,500–$15,000 installed, depending on size, brand, and whether the system is heating only or a combi unit that also handles hot water. CANRO provides a free written quote with three options at different price points.
How long does a boiler last?
A well-maintained cast-iron boiler can last 25–30 years, a modern high-efficiency condensing boiler typically lasts 15–20 years, and a combi boiler 12–18 years. Annual servicing has the single biggest impact on lifespan.
My boiler is making a banging or kettling noise. Is that dangerous?
Kettling (a banging or whistling sound) is usually caused by limescale build-up on the heat exchanger and is a sign the system is overheating in localised spots. It will not always cause immediate failure but it shortens the life of the boiler and should be addressed within a few weeks.
Do you service Viessmann, IBC, Baxi, Laars, and Weil-McLain boilers?
Yes. CANRO is one of the few HVAC companies in the Lower Mainland with deep experience on European and high-end North American boilers including Viessmann, IBC, Baxi, Laars, Weil-McLain, NTI, Navien and Rinnai. We carry common parts in the truck.
Should I repair or replace my old boiler?
A useful rule: if the boiler is more than 15 years old and the repair cost is more than 50% of replacement, replacement is the better investment. CANRO will give you both a repair quote and a replacement quote and let you decide.
What HVAC services does CANRO offer in Metro Vancouver?
CANRO installs, services and repairs boilers, furnaces, heat pumps, hot water tanks, tankless water heaters, gas fireplaces and air conditioning across Metro Vancouver. We work on residential homes, townhouses and condos throughout the Lower Mainland.
How long has CANRO been in business?
CANRO has been serving the Greater Vancouver area since 1999. Our founder George is recognised by customers as one of the most experienced boiler and hydronic heating technicians in the Lower Mainland.
What areas do you serve?
We cover all of Metro Vancouver: Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey, Coquitlam, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, New Westminster, Delta, Langley, Port Moody, Port Coquitlam, White Rock, Pitt Meadows, and Maple Ridge.
