You do not need to write a $15,000 cheque to get a heat pump. BC homeowners have access to multiple $0-down financing programs in 2026, several of which are designed specifically for heat pump retrofits. Here is the menu, including the option that lets you pay the heat pump off through your BC Hydro bill.
Free in-home consultation. Free written quote. TSBC-licensed installers. Call (604) 359-1081 or request a quote online.
The CHEEF program (Canada Home-Energy Efficiency Financing) offers 0% interest financing up to $40,000 over 10 years for heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, insulation, and windows. Payments collect through your BC Hydro bill — effectively interest-free and transferable to the next homeowner. CANRO files this application for you.
Financeit offers 60-144 month terms at 7.99-12.99% APR, $0 down, no prepayment penalty. Approval is typically same-day via soft credit check. Most CANRO customers use this for the net-of-rebate amount.
FortisBC occasionally runs no-interest financing on furnaces and dual-fuel systems through CANRO. BC Hydro’s Affordability Fund and Indigenous Community programs add layered support. We check eligibility during your free consultation.
Free in-home consultation. TSBC-licensed technicians. FortisBC rebate paperwork handled.
📞 (604) 359-1081 Request a quoteIf you have CMHC mortgage insurance, you can claim a 15-25% refund on your insurance premium when installing energy-efficient upgrades including heat pumps. For a typical $750k Vancouver home, this is $1,500-$3,500 cash back.
Many Vancouver homeowners use existing HELOC capacity at prime rate (currently ~6.5%) for the simplest financing path. CANRO accepts HELOC draws as a payment method.
Most clients do one of: (1) CHEEF on-bill for the full amount, (2) HELOC for the full amount, or (3) deposit + Financeit for the net-of-rebate amount with a Rebate Bridge to handle the 60-120 day rebate lag.

Metro Vancouver homes have specific requirements when it comes to heat pumps, driven by climate, code, and the local housing stock. This page covers the essentials. A cold-climate heat pump in Metro Vancouver delivers 2-4 units of heat per unit of electricity — meaning 200-400% effective efficiency vs 95-98% for the best gas furnace. Vancouver's mild winters (rare lows below -5°C) are ideal heat-pump territory.
Vancouver's moderately hard tap water (around 60-100 ppm hardness in most of Metro Vancouver) affects tankless water heaters, combi boilers, and hot-water tanks — annual descaling is essential. CANRO has worked with heat pump systems across Metro Vancouver since 1999, including installations and service calls in Como Lake, Yaletown, White Rock and Kerrisdale.
Sizing. Heat-pump sizing balances heating capacity at design temperature (often -10°C in Metro Van) against cooling load. Variable-capacity units handle both ends well — over-sizing for heating causes summer humidity problems.
Lifespan. A modern heat pump installed by a qualified contractor typically lasts 15-20 years. Annual maintenance, regular filter changes, and keeping the outdoor coil clear of leaves and debris all extend service life.
Warning signs. Heat-pump issues include short-cycling, refrigerant-charge problems (low cooling capacity), defrost-cycle faults, communicating-system errors, and ECM motor failures at 12+ years.
If you already have ductwork from a furnace, a ducted central heat pump is usually the better choice for whole-home comfort. Ductless mini-splits are ideal for additions, basement suites, garage conversions, and homes without ducts (radiant-heated houses).
A whole-home ducted heat pump installation in Metro Vancouver typically costs $13,000-$22,000 before rebates. After stacking BC Hydro + FortisBC + federal rebates, eligible homeowners can see net costs of $5,000-$11,000.
Yes — every heat pump is also a fully functioning air conditioner. One unit replaces both a furnace and an A/C, saves floor space, and qualifies for rebates that a separate A/C alone would not.
SEER measures cooling efficiency (higher is better, 16-22 typical); HSPF and the newer HSPF2 measure heating efficiency. For Vancouver, look for HSPF2 above 9.0 — that's the threshold for premium cold-climate performance and most rebate programs.
Current heat-pump rebates can total $11,000+ for eligible Vancouver homeowners: up to $6,000 from CleanBC, up to $5,000 from federal Greener Homes, plus income-qualified top-ups. CANRO is a registered contractor and handles the paperwork end-to-end.
Yes. Modern cold-climate heat pumps from Mitsubishi (H2i), Daikin (Aurora), Carrier (Greenspeed) and Lennox (XP25) maintain rated heating capacity down to -15°C and continue producing heat (at reduced capacity) down to -25°C — far colder than Metro Vancouver ever gets.
